Those students who make formal application to the athletic training program during the spring semester will be required to become certified through the American Red Cross as a Professional Rescuer. The cost for this is $27.00 per student and includes online materials and the cost for the certificate. The student must also have a pocket mask and those can be purchased for $14.00. Students accepted into the athletic training program will need to recertify every other year as a Professional Rescuer. The recertification cost is $27.00 per student.
Other costs associated with the athletic training program include (but are not limited to):
- American Red Cross CPR/AED certification: $27.00 (good for 2 years)
- Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI) Wilderness First Aid Certification: $10.00 (good for 3 years).
- Fingerprinting and Background Check: $30.00 – $35.00
- NATA membership in order to utilize ATrack for managing student documents and logging clinical hours (membership is an annual fee and ranges from $70 to $105 depending on your state of residence)
Costs associated with traveling to and from your clinical site is the individual responsibility of the athletic training student. However, most clinical rotations are located on or within very close proximity of the WVU campus.
Those students in the athletic training program are required to attend one (1) professional athletic training meeting prior to graduation. This cost will vary depending on whether you attend a state, district, or national meeting. Attendance at a professional meeting must be completed prior to the end of the fall semester during your senior year.
