Dr. Chip Zimmer earned his B.S. in recreation administration in 1974 and his M.S. in sport psychology in 1976 from WVU. He received his Ph.D. in business and sport management from the University of Maryland in 1981. He spent 15 years in sports administration with the Washington Capitals, Assistant AD for Sports Marketing at the University of Maryland, Athletic Director at George Washington University, Associate Director for International Competition for Sport for Understanding and Senior VP of DelWilber Associates. He then spent 15 years in healthcare marketing, finishing his career in higher education, serving as the chair of the MBA program at Shepherd University . He and his wife, Barbara have run the Zimmer Marketing Group since 1998, serving the senior housing industry.
While at WVU, he was the coordinator of men's intramural sports, general manager of the "Old Pros," and played Freshman baseball.
He was inducted into The Mountain, ranking men’s honorary and into Sphinx, senior men’s honorary. Zimmer elected to two terms as the student representative on the WVU Athletic Council. He is the only person who is an Honorary Member of both the University of Maryland “M” Club and the WVU Varsity Club. His wife Barbara is also a WVU alumna, have "retired" to Williamsburg, VA. His interests include waterfowl hunting, fly fishing and World War II and Revolutionary War history. Zimmer is active in the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Freemasons and Knights of St. Andrew. He is the founding president of the George Washington Society of Virginia.
