Proud Lady Mountaineer Becky Franklin wore number 13 during her time on the court as a member of the women’s basketball team in which she lettered all four years, 1976-1979. Her B.S. from WVU (Physical Education and Social Studies 1979 and Master’s degree in 1999) led her to the classroom where she taught at Cheat Lake Middle School (currently Mountaineer Middle School) for 35 years. While in education, she put her passion for athletics to good use as Middle School Girl’s Basketball Coach for 15 years and Middle School Girl’s Track Coach for 25 years. Her teams regularly attended county championship games and proved to be victorious in many appearances.
Her love of sports made her an obvious candidate for the Selection Committee and Board Member of the Fayette County Hall of Fame for 8 years. Becky also gave back to the community in which she lived by sitting on the Asbury United Methodist Church Christian Preschool board for 4 years.
Following her retirement from teaching, she longed for a warmer climate and now cheers on her beloved Mountaineers from her home in Kingsland, GA. She currently sits on the board of the Friends of Camden County Public Library where she is also the co-secretary. She enjoys visiting her daughter Lauren and son-in-law Justin who is a Lieutenant Commander in the US Navy. Becky made sure that her granddaughter Morgan Belle was born with a basketball in her hands. She enjoys traveling, vacationing with family and friends, spending time with her mother, and subbing at Camden County High School - only if it doesn’t interrupt her golf game.
Becky is thrilled for the opportunity to be on the visiting committee and is eager to work alongside fellow Mountaineers.
