West Virginia University’s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences has a 90-year history of training and graduating exemplary students, engaging in the discovery of new knowledge and serving the people of West Virginia. Throughout this time, we have seen a great deal of change in society at large, resulting in numerous shifts within our college programs, faculty and students.
Each of these adjustments produces new challenges and opportunities within the mission areas of teaching, research and service. The development of the CPASS Strategic Plan provides the college with a roadmap to thoughtfully position us to take maximal advantage of those opportunities and to provide direction to all our important decisions.
Looking toward the future, it is our pleasure to share with you our Mission, Core Values and Vision. With that vision in mind, the college has created five major goal areas in alignment with the University’s Strategic Plan. Within each area, and specific to the college, we have created definitive and measurable objectives and actions which we will follow to meet those stated objectives and goals.
As with all strategic plans, this needs to remain a fluid document that can be adapted based upon those factors (e.g., COVID-19) that impact our college, the university, our community, state, country and the world. With this in mind, we remain committed to re-evaluating our efforts on a regular basis, assessing our progress, modifying our strategies when necessary, and making appropriate updates.
I encourage you to review this plan to get a better sense of the college and its mission to prepare the next generation of leaders and public servants. We believe that we have a blueprint in place that can help us remain successful.
It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve as Dean of this college and work with our stellar faculty, staff and students to help make our vision a reality. Mountaineers Go First!
