Biographical Sketch

Dr. Andrew Hawkins received his undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University and masters and doctoral degrees at The Ohio State University where he studied special physical education, behavior analysis, and developmental psychology. He taught in Montgomery County, Maryland, at Morgan State University in Baltimore, and found his academic home at West Virginia University from 1980-2012.

Dr. Hawkins’ served WVU as PETE Program Coordinator, Graduate Coordinator for CPASS, numerous terms as Chair of the Faculty Review Committee, and Chair of the WVU Graduate Council. He served on the editorial board of the Journal of Teaching in Physical Education, and on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Kinesiology in Higher Education.

In the broader university and Morgantown communities, Dr. Hawkins served as Faculty Advisor for Campus Crusade for Christ, WVU’s largest protestant student organization, for 31 years. An ordained pastor in the Christian & Missionary Alliance, he was the founding pastor of C2: The College Church, and founded a community theological study center. He was Pastor of Adult Ministries at the CMA Church for 22 years, and currently serves as Senior Pastor of The Village Church at Shell Point in Fort Myers, FL. Ministering to more than 750 parishioners, he leads a staff of 10 including pastors, chaplains, and other professionals, and serves as Chaplain of the 350 member Shell Point Golf Club.

He and his wife Jean have been married since 1976, have two married children, and three grandchildren.
