Cathy Parson

Parson, a Hagerstown, Md. native, played for the WVU women’s basketball team as a guard from 1980-1983. Parson set a lot of firsts for WVU female athletes. She is noted for being the first woman at WVU to receive an athletic scholarship, first woman to have her jersey retired, and the first woman ever to be inducted into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame. Parson continues to hold the all time career scoring record for the WVU women’s basketball team with 2,115 points and is third time career scorer for both men’s and women’s basketball. The only two basketball players to have more WVU career points than Parson is Jerry West and Hot Rod Hundley. After leaving WVU, Parson became an assistant coach at Providence College and later the head coach at Christopher Newport University and Howard University.
